Many applications, such as WordPress and online shops, store their data in a MySQL/MariaDB database. Here is how to create and manage one in Plesk.
Creating a database
- Log in to Plesk.
- Choose Databases and click Add Database.
- Name the database and select the site it belongs to.
- Create a database user with a strong password (you can click Generate).
- Click OK. Note the database name, user, password and database server as shown in Plesk. You will need them in your application's settings.
If you install WordPress with WordPress Toolkit, the database is created automatically.
Managing with phpMyAdmin
- In Databases, find your database.
- Click phpMyAdmin. It opens in a new tab without a password.
- From there you can view tables, run SQL queries and use Export or Import.
Export and import
- Export: in Plesk click Export Dump to download a copy of the database.
- Import: click Import Dump and choose a
.sqlor.zipfile, e.g. when moving a site from another provider.
Plan limits
Basic allows 1 database, Standard 10, while Premium and Business allow unlimited databases. If you need more, see Upgrading your plan.
Caution: deleting a database cannot be undone. Take a backup first.
