A backup lets you restore your website, email and databases if something goes wrong. With Plesk's Backup Manager you can do it yourself.

Manual backup

  1. Log in to Plesk.
  2. In Websites & Domains, choose Backup & Restore (Backup Manager).
  3. Click Back Up.
  4. Choose what to include (e.g. everything: files, databases, email) and click OK.
  5. When it finishes, the backup appears in the list. You can download it to your computer.

Scheduled backups

  1. In Backup Manager click Schedule.
  2. Turn the schedule on and choose a frequency (e.g. daily or weekly) and a time.
  3. Set how many backups to keep, so your storage does not fill up.
  4. Click OK.

Note: backups stored on the server count towards your plan's storage. If Plesk allows it, you can also set up external storage.

Restoring

  1. In Backup Manager, click the backup you want.
  2. Choose what to restore (all or part, e.g. only files or one database).
  3. Click Restore.

Restoring replaces the current data with the data from the backup.

Good practice

  • Take a backup before any big change, such as an update or a PHP version change.
  • Download a copy off the server from time to time.
  • For automatic backups outside your hosting, see CodeGuard.
