All hosting plans include a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt. SSL makes your website open over https and show the padlock in the browser.

Before you start

Your domain must already point to your hosting (via nameservers or DNS records). If you just made the change, it may take a while before it works.

Enabling SSL

  1. Log in to Plesk.
  2. In Websites & Domains, choose SSL/TLS Certificates next to your domain.
  3. Click Install on the Let's Encrypt option.
  4. Enter your email and choose to also cover the www version.
  5. If you like, choose to secure your email (mail) with the same certificate.
  6. Click Get it free. Within seconds the certificate is installed.

Redirect to https

On the same page, turn on Redirect from http to https, so every visitor sees the secure version.

Renewal

Let's Encrypt certificates are renewed automatically by Plesk. You don't need to do anything, as long as the domain keeps pointing to your hosting.

Do I need something more?

For most sites the free SSL is enough. If you want a certificate with company validation or a wildcard, see Which SSL certificate should I choose.
