The NordVPN Windows app needs Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11 and an internet connection. For Windows 7, 8.1 or Windows 10 32-bit there is only a legacy version that no longer receives updates, so we don't recommend it.
Install
- Download the app from nordvpn.com/download.
- Open the installer from your Downloads folder.
- When Windows asks whether to allow the app to make changes, click Yes.
- Choose whether you want shortcuts on the Desktop or Start menu, then click Next and Install.
Log in
- Open the app and click Log in. Your browser opens.
- Sign in with your Nord Account email and password, then return to the app.
- Click Quick Connect, or type a country or a specific server into the search bar.
Useful settings
Open Settings from the gear icon in the bottom-left corner.
- Kill Switch: Internet Kill Switch cuts all internet access while you are not connected to the VPN; App Kill Switch closes only the apps you choose. See how Kill Switch works.
- Auto-connect: connect to the VPN automatically when your computer starts.
- Split Tunneling: choose which apps go through the VPN and which don't.
- Threat Protection: blocks malicious sites, trackers and ads. See what Threat Protection does.
