An expired domain stops pointing to your website and email. Here is how renewal works and how to avoid unpleasant surprises.
How renewal works
The renewal invoice is generated 14 days before the expiry date and emailed to you. Once it is paid, the domain is renewed for the period you have chosen.
- Log in to the Client Area.
- Open Invoices and pay the renewal invoice.
- Alternatively, in My domains, select the domain and click Renew to renew early or for more years.
Auto-renewal
On the domain's page you can check whether auto-renewal is on. When it is on, the invoice is created automatically on time. To avoid missed payments, see the payment methods.
What happens if it expires
- The website and email that use the domain stop working.
- Restoring an expired domain may not be possible or may cost extra, depending on the extension and registry rules.
- If too much time passes, the domain may become available again and someone else could register it.
Tip: keep your email address up to date in Account details so you receive renewal reminders.
