DNS records connect your domain to your website, email and other services. Here we explain the most common ones and where to change them.

The main records

TypeWhat it does
A / AAAAPoints the domain to a server IP address (IPv4 / IPv6).
CNAMEMakes one name (e.g. www) an alias of another name.
MXSets which server receives your email.
TXTText used for verifications and email security (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).

Where do I change records?

Records are changed wherever the domain's nameservers point.

Domain on Blue Mint Plesk hosting

  1. Log in to Plesk (see Logging in to Plesk).
  2. In Websites & Domains, select the domain and open DNS Settings.
  3. Click Add Record for a new record, or select an existing one to edit it.
  4. Fill in the type, name and value as given by the service provider, then save.

Domain with other nameservers

Make the changes in the DNS panel of the provider your nameservers point to. If a DNS management option is available on the domain's page in the Client Area, you will find it under My domains.

Tips

  • Before deleting or changing a record, write down the old value.
  • Changes take a little time before they apply everywhere.
  • For email, also see SPF, DKIM & DMARC.
